The rising cost of textbooks is causing students to decide not to purchase the materials they need for class or to choose not to take the class. Faculty members understand that this is an issue but are not sure where to look to find quality resources. In a 2017 study, 47% of faculty responded “there are not enough resources for my subject” and 50% felt it is “too hard to find what I need”. This belief that there are not enough resources and those that are out there are hard to find causes a low adoption of open-licensed resources. To help faculty and librarians locate quality resources we are happy to announce the launch of the South Carolina Affordable Learning (SCALE) website.
The SCALE website provides librarians and faculty with information about affordable learning, links to databases and sites where affordable learning resources can be found, and information about upcoming statewide faculty programs. The website also offers marketing materials for librarians to help promote affordable learning and the SCALE faculty programs on their own campus.
