PASCAL has launched South Carolina Affordable Learning (SCALE), a statewide initiative that seeks to reduce the overall cost of higher education for students by promoting the use of quality low-cost and no-cost learning materials. The PASCAL Board of Directors has allocated $75,000 for the initiative to build awareness, and explore, pilot, and evaluate approaches over three years.
PASCAL’s Affordable Learning Task Force is central to the SCALE initiative, providing frameworks that would make educational content more affordable for students at PASCAL member schools. The Affordable Learning Task Force is tasked with assessing current affordable learning programs in South Carolina and expanding awareness of affordable learning principles, practices and opportunities through training and professional development. It will investigate modalities for expanding affordable learning initiatives in the state through pilot and/or demonstration projects it identifies as promising.
