SCALE - What Is Affordable Learning?

Open Educational Resources

Open Educational Resources (OER), are teaching, learning, and research resources that are free of cost and access barriers, and which also carry legal permission for open use.* They include a multitude of formats, including open textbooks, course materials and more.

OERs are licensed in such a way that enables adopters to utilize the 5 Rs.  Often, Creative Commons licenses are applied to OERs to license these rights to adopters.

Find fliers and images you can use to promote OER on our Marketing Materials page

Open Textbooks

These textbooks are licensed under a Creative Commons license, available freely online to be used by faculty and students.  There are textbooks available for a large variety of subjects and the information from them can be revised to fit a courses need.

Course Materials

These materials cover everything from quizzes and lecture slides to lesson plans.  Because this material is open you can use it as needed for your class.
Visit our General OER Collections page to find links to several web sites that have course materials that are available for you to use.

Streaming Videos

There are streaming videos online that are available to reuse, remix, or redistribute.
