Reimagining our Course Material System for Student Success

Join your colleagues for lunch and a keynote presentation by Nicole Allen, Director of Open Education, SPARC.

The course material landscape in higher education has changed rapidly over the last ten years. Where the previous generation of students used print textbooks that could be bought and sold, today’s students are increasingly subscribed to digital materials that look less like books and more like advanced technology. Yet, institutional policies and procedures have not caught up with the many implications. It’s time to step back and examine the forces driving the course material market and how higher education can leverage open educational resources to keep the focus on student success.

About the Summit

This one-day event will provide opportunities to learn about existing textbook affordability efforts within the state and provide feedback on how to strengthen OER capacity across institutions. Lunch will be provided.

The aim of the summit is to bring together higher education leaders from across South Carolina to explore how higher education institutions can work together to improve student outcomes and retention through the use of open and affordable course materials.  Participants will meet with national OER experts and leading practitioners from across our state. We will explore best practices and discuss potential avenues for collaboration within the South Carolina higher education community.
