Let's Make Higher Education More Affordable

High textbook costs create significant financial and academic burdens for students. Research shows students adopt harmful strategies to handle these high expenses.

The remedy? Open and affordable course materials – a proven approach that can lower costs and boost student success.

How are SC Students Coping with High Textbook Costs? 

A survey of more than 780 SC college students across 19 institutions revealed that:  

82% Did not purchase some or all required materials.

39% Took fewer courses to cut down on course materials costs.

31% Chose to take a different course with lower course materials costs.
