We are excited to announce that PASCAL will host four regional Affordable Learning Workshops in June and July. The workshops will be presented by members of PASCAL's Affordable Learning Task Force. The full schedule is available below. The workshops are free to staff at PASCAL member libraries but registration is required. PASCAL members wishing to register, may visit the PASCAL calendar.
The full-day workshop will be split into a morning session and an afternoon session. Participants may choose to attend either of the half day sessions or both for a full-day of professional development and opportunities to create customized resources and tools for promoting affordable learning on their campus.
Morning Session: Affordable Learning Boot Camp (9:00 AM – Noon)
This session will provide an introduction to affordable learning concepts and open educational resources (OER). Attendees will learn how to search for and evaluate OERs, and will develop their own elevator pitch to promote affordable learning on their campus.
Afternoon Session: Strategies for Campus Outreach (1:00 – 4:00 PM)
The afternoon session will provide in depth information on PASCAL's affordable learning initiative, South Carolina Affordable Learning (SCALE) and two statewide faculty outreach programs that will be launched this fall. Attendees will learn strategies for campus outreach and how their institution can take advantage of SCALE’s programs to raise awareness and engage with both faculty and students. Using templates developed by the task force, attendees will create their own customized resources to educate their campus community about affordable learning and promote SCALE’s upcoming faculty programs.
Lunch will be provided for all full-day attendees. The lunch hour (12-1) will provide an opportunity for networking and open discussion about affordable learning. Those choosing to attend only one session are welcome to bring their own lunch and either stay late or come early to join the discussion.
Our thanks to Lander University, Coker College, Midlands Technical College and The Citadel for hosting the workshops.
