PASCAL Board of Directors Approves New Affordable Learning Projects

by Ellan Jenkinson on 2021-09-30T00:00:00-04:00 | 0 Comments

The PASCAL Board of Directors has approved a new multifaceted framework for expanding creation and use of Open Educational Resources (OER) at member institutions through PASCAL’s South Carolina Affordable Learning (SCALE) initiative. New projects, approved by the board at their September meeting, include:

  • A new partnership with Clemson University Press establishing a means for publishing professional grade open textbooks and course-materials created by SC faculty. These materials will be published under the SCALE imprint.
  • A systemic statewide planning process in coordination with CHE and other stakeholders. This will include an OER “Summit” to bring together institutional participants beyond just academic libraries.
  • Continuation of PASCAL’s SCALE microgrants program. These awards are seeding OER activities at individual institutions. In 2020,  PASCAL made grants to support affordable learning projects at eight-member institutions.

Together, these projects leverage PASCAL’s record of success as a collaborative initiative serving all students across the state.  More information about these exciting new projects will be shared with members over the coming months as they unfold.
